Think back to when you became a Christian, how you put your faith in Jesus Christ, and declared Him Lord over your life. Looking back, I am sure you can say, “I have truly seen God at work in my life.” Do you recall the different seasons and struggles you experienced throughout your life? You might even flag them as the milestones that matured and deepened your faith. Your faith in God enables you to survive, and even thrive in, the toughest challenges. These hard and beautiful times allow you to see how God grows you and deepens your trust in Him, so that you never want to live life without His presence.
I recently heard a radio speaker suggest that when you have a big impactful decision to make, ask yourself which choice would cause you to take the bigger step of faith. Every decision should be considered in the same way. Which decision draws you closer to God and His purpose and love for you?
This decision path would cause you to:
- Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus all the time (your new default response to life)
- See the hand of God move in your life each time you step out in faith.
The author of Hebrews stresses that “Jesus is the author and perfector of our faith.” (12:2) When you walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), God shows up and makes Himself known to you. Then when he moves on your behalf, you will draw even closer to know Him more. God is a personal and intimate God. He takes great delight in making Himself known to His children, yielding deeper intimacy.
Just as you exercise to stay in good physical condition, God wants you to exercise your faith every day to express complete trust in Him that He is sovereign over all aspects of your life. God really is in total control; He works in every situation for His glory and your good.
Next time you make an important decision, seek the choice that allows you to step out in faith and trust God more. Then be prepared and watch for God to make Himself known. Life is truly an adventure when God leads the way!
Living for Him,
